Nigerian Students Association holds its 4th Inauguration Dinner & Awards Night

The members of the Nigerian Students Association (NSA) at the University of Alberta recently held their 4th inuaguration dinner and awards night. At the well-attended dinner, Jennifer Peters was installed as the 4th and first female president of the 4-year old students body.

Prof. Bede Eke of the University of Alberta Sociology department gave the keynote speech. Guests at the annual dinner included Joseph Adedire, the president of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton, prominent Edmonton-based Nigerians - Peter and Idong Obiefuna - Margaret Eyo, and the Calgary-based parents of the new NSA president, Charles and Enny Peters.

The event also had in attendance the president's grandmother, Madam Victoria Peters and the aunt, Olamide Sadare.

Guests and students were treated to a sublime rendition of Sam Cooke's Change Is Gonna Come by SK Ilori whose butter-laced voice threw the audience into excitement. Organizers also treated the audience to poetry recitation, cultural dance, a sumptuous meal, and a stream of popular songs by Nigerian pop music stars.
